During the Month of July in Utah, there are many celebrations honoring the Mormon Pioneers and in particular their journey to this state.
This painting, by Sandra Rast, prortrays the daily life and hardship of those who made the journey by Handcart. All of their belongings and supplies were in a cart they pulled by hand.
This month many of the young people of the Church of Jesus Christ take part in TREK, which is a 3 or 4 day journey where they pull handcarts. They wish to gain an appreciation of their ancestors and remember some of the sacrifices that were made to settle the Salt Lake Valley.
Sandra Rast has done many paintings honoring the pioneers.
